For me, art is love — and first love never dies.
“I see beauty in the things that are minimal but avant-garde, deep but subtle, the nostalgic, melancholic, but full of angst–contradicting but by bits and pieces they are different, and will always be mysterious. That I think is what make things beautiful.”
Martina is a self taught contemporary mixed media artist, and photographer from the Philippines. Her works are inspired from the dreams of the clouds, nostalgic, melancholic memories and teenage angst.
Manalo’s abstract works explore the release of nervous tension from a universal perspective; from subjective and objective viewpoints.
She began exploring the world of visual art at the age of 23 with painting. This has brought her to several exhibitions in around her hometown, and now she is exploring the world of photography, drawing her to several projects in and out of the country.
Martina chooses her subjects so carefully that they are mostly melancholic, and nostalgic even in the most subtle way. For her, she wants to touch people so deeply with memories from the past, and take them to a moment of day dreaming, and reminiscing about days that was, and have been—it is all about how one photo could make you feel completely different in so many ways.
She is currently living in Hong Kong and continuing her craft.
